Just a footnote regarding the urgent repair of wartime Brighton's railway viaduct during the Blitz in the 1940s (Letters, November 26).

Few had cars, petrol was rationed and almost all goods, plus Royal Mail, went by rail, the lifeline of the nation.

If a large section of the viaduct collapsed today, it wouldn't surprise me if the whole viaduct ended up in a similar position to the West Pier owing to local politicians non-interest in the disjointed intercity coast railway.
