The devastated parents of a student who was killed in a car crash have spoken of their grief.

Suzanne and Graham Nye tonight paid tribute to their 20-year-old daughter, Ayesha, who died after the car she was in crashed on a country road.

Ayesha was on her way to get some lunch with two college friends when the car they were travelling in left the road at 12.55pm on Wednesday.

The Citroen Saxo was travelling east between Plumpton and Offham, near Lewes, on the B2116 when it skidded along a grass verge and hit a tree.

Ayesha, a foundation degree animal science student at Plumpton College, died at the scene of the crash.

Her parents, of Lyminster Avenue in Hollingbury, Brighton, said: "She was a beautiful young woman both inside and out.

"She had a huge appetite for life and so much to offer.

"At the end of her degree course she was hoping to become a wildlife conservationist in Africa where she had worked on a voluntary basis earlier this year.

"We were very proud to be the parents of such a bright adorable girl.

"A candle has gone out in our lives and she will be missed terrible by us and her brother James.

"We wish to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and messages at this difficult time."

Ayesha had asked friends and family to donate cash for her 21st birthday in March to the Mankwe research centre in South Africa.

She had visited the animal conservation site for six weeks in April with other students from Plumpton College.

College principal Des Lambert said: "She was a lovely student who was full of fun and enthusiastic about all she did.

"We are all devastated by the accident and obviously all her friends are affected by it.

"She was very popular and will be sadly missed by everyone at the college."

Friends left messages on The Argus website describing how much they were already missing Ayesha.

Another friend, on the social networking internet site Facebook, said she was numb with pain.

No other cars are thought to have been involved in the accident, which happened just after a bend in the road.

The 20-year-old man driving was arrested and released on police bail.

Police are investigating whether to prosecute him for careless or dangerous driving.

They have ruled out drink or drugs as a cause of the crash.

The driver and another woman passenger, also aged 20, were treated for minor injuries at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the car on the road or anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them on 0845 6070999, quoting Operation Marton.
