THE number of recorded coronavirus cases in Sussex increased by 20 over the last 24 hours, official figures show.

Four more cases were reported in Brighton and Hove over the past 24 hours.

Public Health England figures show that 1,023 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Tuesday in the city, up from 1,019 the same time on Monday.

The rate of infection in Brighton and Hove now stands at 352 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 618.

Six more cases were diagnosed in East Sussex.

There have been 1,896 people who have tested positive for the virus, up from 1,890

The rate of infection in East Sussex now stands at 340 cases per 100,000 people.

Ten more cases were reported in West Sussex.

There have been 3,321 people confirmed as testing positive - up from 3,311.

The rate of infection in West Sussex now stands at 384 cases per 100,000 people.

Sussex’s cases ’were among the 41,274 recorded across the South East, a figure which rose by 187 over the period.

Across the UK, 4,926 people tested positive, bringing the national total to 403,551.

There were 37 people who died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test yesterday.

The national death toll is now 41,825.
