A 22-YEAR-OLD man was airlifted to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash with a sewerage lorry.
His van was involved in a collision with the lorry on the A272 near Cowfold shortly before 9am yesterday.
The lorry driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police, fire and ambulance crews quickly attended the scene and emergency vehicles soon filled the highway.
They were later joined by the air ambulance, which transported the van driver to hospital.
The road remained closed throughout the day.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision as officers look to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Sergeant Chris Ambrose said: "We are investigating the circumstances of this collision and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened or may have dash-cam footage of either of the vehicles.
