THE body of a man has been found on a beach.

Emergency services were called to the scene after the body was spotted at Seaford Head shortly before 6pm yesterday.

Police, RNLI and coastguard crews were joined by the the search and rescue helicopter from Lydd in Kent as they worked together to recover the body.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Emergency services were called after the body of a man was spotted on the beach at Seaford Head at 6pm on Tuesday (22 September).

"Police, coastguard teams and an RNLI lifeboat were deployed and the body was recovered."

The force said that no further information on the incident is available at this time.

The death has now been referred to the coroner's office.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokeswoman said: "HM Coastguard was asked to assist Sussex Police with an incident at 5.37pm yesterday.

"Coastguard rescue teams from Newhaven and Birling Gap attended, along with an RNLI lifeboat from Newhaven and a search and rescue helicopter from Lydd."
