A TEENAGER was taken to hospital "as a priority" after she was hit by a car.
Police blocked off Carden Avenue in Patcham, Brighton, following the collision shortly before 2pm today.
The road remained closed for more than two hours.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Emergency services are at the scene of a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Brighton.
"Paramedics were called to Carden Avenue shortly before 2pm. A woman pedestrian has been injured.
"There are no further details at present.
"However, road closures are in place and drivers are asked to avoid the area at this time."
A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said that a teenager had been "assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital as a priority" following the crash.
Speaking after the crash, an AA spokesman said traffic was "coping well" with the ongoing road closure.
He said: "The road is closed due to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Carden Avenue both ways between Carden Primary School and The Long Man Pub."
As a result of the road closure, bus services were forced to divert their usual routes.
A Brighton and Hove Buses spokesman said: "Due to a police incident, Carden Avenue in Brighton is blocked in both directions.
"Our 5B services are diverting via Carden Hill, Ditchling Road and Surrenden Road (both ways) until further notice."
At about 5pm, traffic reports stated that the road had been reopened and bus services had returned to normal.
