FIREFIGHTERS had to extinguish bushes which caught alight amid a day of pouring rain.
Crews from East Sussex Fire and Rescue were called to Duke’s Mound on Brighton seafront at 6.56pm last night.
One jet was used to extinguish the fire which was “deep-seated” in the bushes, close to Brighton Marina.
Heavy rain battered the Sussex coast yesterday, with many places across seeing between 25 and 50mm of downfall.
Pictures from the scene show the fire ripping through the bushes and some witness reports suggest a tent may have been involved.
Crews from the fire service left the scene at 9.10pm, a spokeswoman said.
