LIVERPOOL and Manchester United will go head-to-head as they look to sign Watford winger Ismaila Sarr.

Jurgen Klopp was hoping to wait until the summer to sign the £45million-rated Senegal international but may have to make a move in this transfer window with United reportedly having already opened talks.

Both clubs are reeling from humiliating defeats on Sunday - United losing 6-1 at home to Spurs while Liverpool were beaten 7-2 at Aston Villa.

Klopp is looking to build his 'next generation' team and needs a younger squad with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all pushing 30.

Sarr scored six goals in 30 Premier League appearances for the Hornets last season after his £25m move from Rennes last year and Klopp could see him forming an exciting attacking partnership with Diogo Jota - a recent arrival from Wolves.

Grant has not featured for the Terriers this season who boosted their own attacking options after Danny Ward returned to the club on a free transfer from Cardiff City.

NEIL WARNOCK is expecting big things from Patrick Roberts when, as expected, he signs for Middlesbrough on a second loan spell from Manchester City.

The 23-year-old made 10 Championship appearances last season, scoring one goal, in his first stint on Teeside that was hampered by a hamstring injury that kept him on the sidelines for nearly five months.

But the Boro boss believes Roberts will be a different proposition second time around.

“I had a good chat with Patrick and he’s looking forward to it,” Warnock told the Northern Echo. “If he gets his head up and his confidence up, he can be a really good player."

DERBY County are tracking Serdar Dursun and Charlie Austin as they look for more firepower.

Despite a first league win of the season against Norwich on Saturday, the Rams need to improve their attacking options.

However, they will have to move quickly if they want o try and lure Dursun to Pride Park as the deadline to complete international deals is 11pm tonight.

The 28-year-old centre-forward currently plays for SV Darmstadt 98 in Germany's Bundesliga 2.

Austin appears to be on the way out at West Brom having not played for the Baggies in the Premier League this season.

The 31-year-old has been restricted to Carabou Cup appearances and was not included in West Brom's 22-man squad for the clash at his former club Southampton yesterday.

SHEFFIELD Wednesday have been linked with a move for West Brom's striker Kenneth Zohore but is more than likely to be a season long loan rather than a permanent deal.

The Owls are also tracking Wolves full back Dion Sanderson who helped Cardiff City reach the play-offs while on loan at the Bluebirds last season.
