A HIGH school has praised students for “reacting well” to its first confirmed cases of Covid-19 after reports students were sent home.

On Friday, a source, who asked not to be named, said one class at East Bergholt High School were sent home after a positive coronavirus test was recorded.

She said: “I know because my daughter lives near the school and the children near her were among those sent home.”

In a newsletter to parents last week, deputy headteacher Gavin Hetherington said: “If your child has to self-isolate at any point, please reassure them that staff at school are thinking about them and can be contacted via Google Classroom and the school email system.

“We have seen our first positive Covid-19 tests this week and students have responded amazingly well, following our instructions and behaving with kindness and positivity towards others.

“Your children should be commended for their maturity in this difficult time, it really has made a huge difference to reassuring staff and the general school community.

“This afternoon [headteacher] Mr Woodcock delivered a whole school assembly to extend this message and reassure students that the measures we have in place support the safety of everyone.”

The school has been approached for comment.
