A MAN found guilty of the brutal murder of a vulnerable woman faces sentencing today.
Richard Canlin, 42, killed Nicola Stevenson at her flat in Stansfield Road, Lewes, in October last year.
After a two-week trial at Hove Crown Court, the jury returned a guilty verdict.
Yesterday Judge Shani Barnes said Canlin would be sentenced for his crimes today and said he faces a mandatory life sentence.
She told the jury: “When you get the jury summons you never know what it is you are about to be asked to do.
“This is deeply distressing case and I don’t think for a moment you will have enjoyed this experience, but I hope you found it a positive one where you have played your vital role.”
Caroline Carberry QC, prosecuting, said Nicola’s parents and family have made statements about the impact of the horrific crime.
