THE NUMBER of recorded coronavirus cases in Sussex has increased by 192, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 8,084 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Wednesday in Sussex, up from 7,892 the same time on Tuesday.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 19,724 over the period, to 654,644.

Sussex's cases were among the 53,456 recorded across the South East, a figure which rose by 1,166 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.

Brighton and Hove

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Brighton and Hove increased by 68.

Public Health England figures show that 1,513 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Brighton and Hove, up from 1,445.

The rate of infection in Brighton and Hove stands at 520 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 989.

East Sussex

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in East Sussex increased by 44.

Public Health England figures show that 2,398 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in East Sussex, up from 2,354.

The rate of infection in East Sussex now stands at 430 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 989.

West Sussex

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in West Sussex increased by 80.

Public Health England Figures show that 4,173 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in West Sussex, up from 4,093.

The rate of infection in West Sussex now stands at 483 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 989.
