A TEENAGE mum accused of manslaughter wept as a court heard she left her baby home alone for six days.
Verphy Kudi, 18, wiped tears from her eyes as she was sent to Crown Court for the alleged manslaughter of her 20-month-old daughter.
It is claimed that she left the baby home alone for six days and the child died from neglect.
Verphy Kudi, 18, appeared by video in court after her daughter died at her flat in Brighton in December last year.
She is accused of manslaughter between December 4 and 12.
Asiah, aged 20 months, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton from the address on Wednesday, December 11 and was confirmed dead soon after arrival.
Miss Kudi. of no fixed address, spoke only to confirm her name and she understood the charge against her.
She was remanded to appear at Crown Court next month.
A statement from Sussex Police yesterday stated: “A mother has been charged with causing the death of her daughter in Brighton.
“Verphy Kudi, 18, currently of no fixed address, is to appear in custody at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 19 October, charged with the manslaughter of her daughter Asiah, aged 20 months, at an address where they were living in Islingword Road, Brighton, in December 2019.”
