A COUPLE who are giving away their seaside home in a raffle have raised more than £10,000 in eight weeks.

Former Olympic snowboarder Jan Michaelis and his wife Alina launched a competition in August to win Sea Mist Bungalow in West Wittering.

The couple made the decision during lockdown to raffle their £475,000 home to raise £50,000 for their chosen charities and to enable one winner to “live a mortgage-free idyllic beach life”.

The pair have been selling tickets for the chance to win the three-bedroom property and separate log cabin.

The Argus:

Ticket sales mean that Jan and Alina, who are both keen surfers, have been able to make their first £5,000 donation to marine conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage.

Jan, who competed in snowboarding at the Winter Olympics in 2002 and 2006 said: “We are thrilled the competition has received such positive feedback and support from entrants.

“We think Surfers Against Sewage’s work is incredibly important to preserve the UK’s beautiful coastline and beaches and protect wildlife and people alike.”

The Argus:

Pete Lewis, director of fundraising for Surfers Against Sewage, said: “We’re delighted that Jan and Alina have already raised an incredible £5,000 for our work protecting the UK’s marine and coastal environment.

“Thank you to them and everyone who has bought a ticket to win their beautiful home.”

The Argus:

Tickets are still available to win Sea Mist Bungalow, mortgage-free, with entries priced at £2.50 each.

The bright and modern home is within walking distance of the beach in West Wittering and has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open-plan kitchen-diner and lounge and a large rear garden.

The property also comes with a secluded and self-contained wooden cabin, sat behind trees in the garden, which has an additional bedroom, an en suite bathroom and kitchenette, with double French doors leading out onto a large sun deck.

The Argus:

For the property to be given away with all transfer costs covered, including stamp duty worth £15,000, 240,000 tickets have to be sold. If not enough tickets are sold, a cash prize worth at least £60,000 is guaranteed for the winner.

The deadline for competition entries has been extended until February 6. To enter, visit www.winmybeachhome.co.uk.
