A SUSPECTED piece of ordnance which prompted a response by army’s bomb disposal squad turned out to be “an old metal bar”.
Fears were sparked when the item was dug up yesterday afternoon near Worthing Pier.
Pictures from the scene show the army’s specialist team working near the pier while police officers taped off the beach’s entrance.
PCSO Ed Mitchell, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team covering Worthing and Adur, spoke out following the incident.
“Army EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) attended and confirmed it was an old metal bar.
“Thank you for your patience while we dealt with this incident.”
