A HOVE bar is set to transform the seafront with a cool, new Covid-safe dining experience.

Rockwater in Western Esplanade, Hove will be serving food and drink to customers seated in igloos from this weekend.

Around 30 igloos have been constructed on Hove Lawns, with each pod catering for up to six people.

Inspired by trendy New York roof top bars, founder and Hove resident Luke Davis, said he wanted to bring something “innovative” to the seafront.

He said: “We were looking at a way of serving food and beverages in a coronavirus friendly way.

“The igloos look really cool and remain within the brand of Rockwater. “It looks amazing from the street, when it is all lit up it will just look beautiful down there.”

“I genuinely think it is something that ticks all the boxes for the community, keeping the business going and adding to the brand of Rockwater.”

“We wanted something that would look wicked, so nice lighting and there will be heating in there with a speaker in each one that we control for some atmospheric music.”

The igloos will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with added winter winters as we head into the festive season.

Table service will be provided, with the added option of ordering from an app, to ensure coronavirus restrictions and social distancing is adhered to.

Mr Davis said: “Because of Covid we have always been trying to adapt. There will be a button you can press, so if you want service it will light up your igloo a certain colour and people will know you want service.

“The igloos are also good because you can clean them very quickly, so when people leave you can go in and do a thorough clean ready for the next people to go in there.”

After opening beach hut bars in the summer, Luke said that due to the coronavirus pandemic has forced the hospitality sector to become more “creative.”

“In the summer, I was thinking about how to launch a take-away service so I developed the idea of the seafront beach hut bars.

“Now we are seeing more cases, I needed to come up with another safe way to trade.

“You have to come up with more innovative ways to keep trading in a sector that is being decimated by Covid.”

“It’s fun coming up with ideas like this, getting an opportunity to develop something like this and seeing it get built and seeing families and the community enjoy it is great.

“It will basically be a fun way to party with your bubble.”

Reservations can be made through the Rockwater Facebook or Instagram page, as well as on their website.
