LIVE music has returned to Brighton Dome for four nights of entertainment.

For the first time since closing its doors in March, the Dome is playing host to small-scale performances as part of the Live Is Alive! series.

Each event features emerging artists and bands presented in collaboration with grassroots music venues.

It is hoped the gigs will raise awareness of the financial trouble venues have faced since the coronavirus pandemic forced them to close their doors.

On Saturday, the second in the series of events, Brighton-based grunge, punk and indie bands took to the stage to perform in front of a socially distanced audience.

While many of the bands involved are far more used to performing to packed-out crowds, the audience at this concert were instead seated around tables of no more than four.

The venues also added enhanced safety measures such as sanitising stations and a one-way system to ensure social distancing is maintained.

The first performance of the evening came from Wife Swap USA. The group have repeatedly been dubbed as “ones to watch” because of the way they mix classic punk with multi-layered lyrics.

The female three-piece Lambrini Girls then brought their unique blend of garage-punk to the stage, with vocalist Phoebe Lunny performing most of the set in just her underwear.

The remainder of the evening’s entertainment came from Ditz and LibraLibra.

Andrew Comben, chief executive of Brighton Dome, said: “We are delighted to be able to work together with the city’s grassroots music venues, to offer a place for emerging artists to play, and support the venues that aren’t able to open at this stage.

“These events will be our first step towards bringing live performances back in a safe format and we hope audiences will feel confident and excited about returning to one of the city’s most treasured spaces.”

Live is Alive will return to Brighton Dome on Saturday and the following Saturday, November 7.

Tickets for both have now sold out, however the events will be available to live stream on the Brighton Dome website.
