TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after gunshots were heard during a city centre incident.

The pair were detained as armed police raided a property in Golden Lane, Brighton, yesterday afternoon.

Cannabis was also seized at the address.

Officers were acting on information gained during an investigation a fight in Rock Place at 11.50am on October 19.

During this, a witness described seeing one man pointing a weapon concealed in his sleeve at another man, who defended himself with a traffic cone before running away.

Several passersby reported hearing gunshots from the area at the time of the altercation.

During the raid yesterday, police made a total of four arrests.

Footage of the incident shared on social media shows a dog unit as well as a large number of officers carrying guns stationed in the street.

Some of the armed officers were in plain clothes, while others wore protective gear.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Detectives investigating an incident in Brighton have made four arrests.

“Police were called to Rock Place at about 11.50am on Monday, October 19, to reports of an assault involving three people, where a firearm is believed to have been discharged.

“The victim was not injured. Officers conducted an area search, but the two suspects - a man and a woman - were not found.

“At about 3pm yesterday, officers attended a property in Golden Lane in connection with the investigation.

“A 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in custody for questioning.

“A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been bailed while enquiries are ongoing.

“While carrying out the warrant, officers seized a significant quantity of cannabis.

“A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of a Class B drug and assisting an offender and has been bailed.
