A FILM festival is returning despite many cinemas closing their doors amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Cinecity returners for its 18th edition after teaming up with fellow festivals to present Amplify.

It is a new online film festival which will run between November 6 and 22 with both virtual and physical screenings.

A spokesman said: "Amplifyis an innovative collaboration between Cinecity and Bath, Cambridge and Cornwall Film Festivals, created in response to these unprecedented times.

"We wanted to continue bringing Adventures in World Cinema to the loyal audiences who have supported Cinecity over many years and also to reach new ones across the UK."

There will be a number of physical screenings at Depot in Pinwell Road, Lewes.

These include Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland on November 6, of David Byrne’s American Utopia on November 6 and Spike Lee’s concert film of the former Talking Heads frontman’s acclaimed live show, Another Round on Nomverb 17.

Online programme highlights include several UK premieres of "festival gems" such as Viggo Mortensen’s directorial debut Falling, a Cannes 2020 official selection.
