- Boris Johnson has repeated the key message he said in March last year: Stay home, protect the NHS, save lives.
- - It means people must stay at home unless for education or work, if you cannot work from home.
- - You can go out for exercise or recreation and meet one other person from another household.
- - You can only meet people from another household for a medical reason or to provide essential care for the vulnerable or as a volunteer.
- - Non essential shops, leisure and entertainment venues must close. Click and collect services from shops can continue.
- - Pubs, bars and restaurants must close. But takeaways can remain open, as can food delivery.
- - Those over 60 or medically vulnerable are asked to minimise their contacts, but to to shield in the same way as last spring.
- - The furlough scheme has been extended through November, to help support businesses.
- The Prime Minister said: "I am under no illusions how difficult this will be for businesses who have already had to endure such hardships. I am truly, truly sorry."
