TRAIN services were brought to a halt after a "road vehicle" crashed into a bridge.

Disruption is expected to last until 7.45pm as a result of the crash between Brighton and Lewes this evening.

At 6.46pm, a Southern Rail spokesman said: "Due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge between Brighton and Lewes, services are currently at a stand."

Shortly afterwards, the spokesman provided an update to say that services would be allowed to travel at a reduced speed between the two stations.

"Services will be subject to delays and cancellations so please allow extra time for your journey this evening," he said.
