THERE were 177 more people diagnosed with coronavirus in Sussex in the past 24 hours.

Public Health England figures show the number of recorded coronavirus cases in Brighton and Hove increased by 33 between 9am on Monday and the same time yesterday.

There have now been 2,611 people who have been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in the city since the start of the pandemic.

A further 34 coronavirus cases have been diagnosed in East Sussex, where the total is now 3,386.

A further 110 coronavirus cases have been diagnosed in West Sussex, where the total is 6,102.

Between 9am on Monday and 9am on Tuesday, 20,018 people tested positive for the virus across the UK.

The numbers of patients in hospital and ventilator beds continues to rise – the totals are 11,458 and 1,075 respectively.

In the UK, 397 more people died within 28 days of a positive test.

The nationwide death toll now stands at 60,051.
