A RAIL company is urging people not to travel due to an incident between Lewes and Eastbourne.

Police are at the scene and no trains have been able to run between the stations since about 6.15pm.

Southern Rail issued advise to passengers following the incident.

"Southern strongly recommend not to travel," a spokesman for the rail company said.

"If you are looking to travel between these stations, we would advise to delay travel where possible as services are currently unable to run until further notice.

"Your ticket will be accepted at no extra cost with Southeastern Railway between Hastings and London.

"Southern services due to run to Eastbourne or Hastings will be diverted to Brighton or will terminate at Lewes.

"Services between Ashford International and Eastbourne will run between Hastings & Ashford International only.

"Rail replacement buses have been confirmed to run between Lewes and Eastbourne and then between Eastbourne and Hastings."

It is believed that disruption will continue until 10pm.
