THERE were 208 new confirmed cases of coronavirus recorded across Sussex over the weekend.

According to data released by Public Health England yesterday, the biggest increase was in West Sussex, where 89 new cases were reported. It brings the total number of cases reported in the county since the pandemic began to 6,736.

There has been 2,920 cases recorded in Brighton and Hove since coronavirus hit, with 68 new cases reported yesterday. In East Sussex, 51 new cases were recorded, bringing the total number of cases reported since March to 3,639.

The rolling weekly infection rate is highest in Brighton however, at 124.8 per 100,000 people, and 363 new cases were reported in the city in the past week.

Although 849 cases were reported in West Sussex in the last seven days, the infection rate stands at 98.3 per 100,000 people. It is lower in East Sussex at 58 per 100,000, and 323 cases were recorded.

Across the UK, 20,572 new cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total number of people who have tested positive to 1,192,013.

Nationally 156 deaths were recorded, and the total number of fatalities stands at 49,044. No deaths were recorded at any Sussex healthcare trust.
