CORONAVIRUS deaths have been recorded at Sussex healthcare trusts for the first time in four days.

Two further deaths were confirmed at the county’s hospitals in the 24 hours leading up to 5pm on Sunday.

One was recorded by the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. It was the first coronavirus death reported at the trust for six days.

NHS England figures show 105 patients with coronavirus are now confirmed to have died at sites run by the trust.

The second death was confirmed by the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This was the first recorded by the trust in four days, and takes its total to 131.

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.

In the UK, as of 5pm on Sunday, there have now been 49,238 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus death. This marked an increase of 194 in 24 hours. As of 9am yesterday, there had been 1,213,363 positive Covid-19 tests in the UK – an increase of 21,350 in 24 hours.
