Team GB runner Chris Smith died from hypothermia brought on by exposure, an inquest heard.

The 43-year-old from Haywards Heath did not return from an afternoon run during a family holiday in the Perthshire hills.

An inquest opening at the Coroner’s Court in Crawley heard the father of two died on October 29.

His death was reported on November 5 after a body was found at Glen Lyon North, Meah Garbh.

His wife Lindsay Smith confirmed the identity of her husband before a post mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as hypothermia brought on by exposure, the inquest heard.

Coroner James Healy-Pratt offered his condolences to the family.

The Aberdeenshire-born runner competed in international mountain running events for Team GB.

Mr Smith was a civil servant who lived in Haywards Heath with his wife and two young children. A full inquest into his death will be held on March 2, 2021.
