More tributes have been made to Dave Edwards, commonly known as 'Mr Christmas', who died after his battle with cancer.

Mr Edwards, aged 86, was a Christmas icon in Watford and Croxley after holding eye-catching festive decorations and lights for the past 42 years at Lancing Way, Croxley Green.

His daughter Sharon Markham confirmed that he passed away on Friday (November 13) at 6.42pm, shortly before the final Christmas lights that took place on Saturday (November 14).

His annual event has raised money every year for different charities, as hundreds of people have gathered to watch the switch-on event.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Robert Voss, has paid his respect to Mr Edwards calling him a community hero.

He said: "I had the honour to get to know Dave quite well over the last few years and I was a huge admirer of what he did to bring pleasure to the people of Croxley and beyond as well as raising a great amount for so many good causes.

"He was also a very generous host. I invited him to the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace this year which was of course cancelled but it was something I knew he was really looking forward to.

"Dave was a local legend and a true hero who will be greatly missed by my wife and I as well as so many others. May he rest in peace."

Former pro footballer, Luther Blissett, also paid tribute to Mr Edwards on Facebook.

He wrote: "What a heavy heart I have knowing that our wonderful Mr Christmas won't be with us again. Dave is a true community legend - and always will be.

"We all hope the event will continue in his name in years to come and the story of how Mr Christmas lived among us and taught everyone the importance of kind and generous heart will be shared.

"I have been truly honoured to have met Dave many times over the years and be asked to switch on lights by him. He was a shining light and I hope we can all help raise funds and carry on his wonderful and generous deeds.

"When I lived in Croxley I knew Christmas had well and truly come when Dave's spectacular lights went on. His light will no doubt be shining down now on those he loved, may he rest in peace and continue to sparkle above us."
