AN AWARD-WINNING musical is to return for a series of special live-streamed shows.

Hit musical, Fiver, will be live-streamed for three performances at the end of November.

The show, which initially ran last year, was written and produced by Brighton-born singer-songwriter, Alex James Ellison and his writing partner, Tom Lees.

Alex, 27, who grew up on Bonchurch Road, near Elm Grove, Brighton also stars in the musical, which opened to rave reviews and sold-out performances at Southwark Playhouse in London.

The show follows the story of a £5 note as it passes through the hands and pockets of different people.

It was a huge success and was nominated for Best Off-West End Musical at the WhatsOnStage Awards, as well as three West End Wilma Awards.

Alex, alongside other members of the show’s cast and crew, suggested on Twitter that they would stage a concert version if their post Twitter post received 500 likes.

They were inundated with likes, retweets and comments from fans, who have been asking for a revival since the show closed last July.

Alex said: “I wish now I’d said 1,000 likes, because we easily reached that.

“I rang Tom and spoke to Southwark Playhouse and we all agreed that we had to be true to our word and put on a show. The original cast quickly signed up, and suddenly we were in business. ”

The performance will be streamed from Southwark Playhouse to give the audience the chance to experience live theatre while venues remain closed during lockdown.

Alex said: “Lockdown has been devastating for the theatre industry. The live experience is why people go to a gig or go to the theatre.

“If you want something pre-recorded, you watch TV or go to the cinema.

“Although our audience can’t be in the physical space with us at Southwark Playhouse, each performance will be fully live, streamed in real-time.

“It’s more exciting for us to do it live as well.

“We have to be just as focused as if the audience were only a few feet away. I can’t wait.”

Alex attended Dorothy Stringer School in Loder Road, Brighton before gaining a place at the prestigious Brit School.

The show will be streamed worldwide on Friday, November 27 at 7.30pm and Saturday, November 28 at 3.15pm and 7.45pm.

Tickets are £15.
