A VIDEO shows two killers in the moments before and after they stabbed a man to death in broad daylight.

CCTV footage released by Sussex Police shows Daryl Richardson and Bobby Smith in dark hooded tops leaving flats in Kite Place West, Brighton, and heading across the street to Whitehawk Road.

The pair are then seen running back again, moments after having killed 26-year-old Muhammed Lamin Jassey in Whitehawk Road with a single stab wound to his chest.

Smith, 22, of Coolham Drive, Brighton, and Richardson, 26, of Cumberland Road, Portsmouth,  were convicted for murder earlier this week.

They were sentenced to life imprisonment at Brighton Crown Court yesterday.

The pair were also caught on CCTV in the Lidl supermarket off Eastern Road minutes before the stabbing, wearing the same clothing that blood was later found on.

The victim’s blood was found on clothing owned by both men, which had their DNA on, including black trainers worn by  Richardson and grey Nike tracksuit bottoms worn by Smith.

The attack itself was witnessed by three people and was also caught on CCTV.

During the trial, Detective Constable Mike George described the footage and said: "It happens very quickly. The man approaches Muhammed Jassey and comes up close to him.

"Then there appears to be, from what I can see, a movement of the smaller man, the shorter male, at which point they both suddenly leave and Muhammed Jassey goes off.

"At that point, we know he has suffered injury. Blood was found deposited on the street area where Muhammed Jassey ends up, and the area where he was stabbed."

Detective Inspector Gareth Hicks of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said the investigation showed the defendants acting together killed Muhammed Jassey.

He said: "Richardson was seen to pick something up from the ground, which evidence showed was Mr Jassey's mobile phone, and the two men ran back to Kite Place West.

"Officers quickly arrived at the scene and went to the flat where they arrested both men. The phone was found concealed in the flat and witness evidence was heard that Richardson had tried to smash it before hiding it.

"To this day we have no idea what the motive was for this vicious and unprovoked attack against a defenceless young man that took him from his family in the prime of his life."

At the sentencing for Smith and Richardson on Thursday, Judge Jeremy Gold QC described the crime as “brutal” and said neither of the killers had shown "even a flicker of remorse" for what they did.

He said :"It seems like the most likely explanation is this was a robbery.

“The two of you could have overcome him easily but he was stabbed with severe force in the heart and he died there in the street.

“It is not possible to say which one of you inflicted the fatal wound. As a joint enterprise you both bear responsibility for his death."
Muhammed Jassey's family said in a statement: "Muhammed was a good son, our first born whose life was taken too soon.

"A kind, strong, handsome, funny, caring, loving person who always looked after people, he was also a brother, partner, father and part of a large and loving extended family.

"We are all devastated by his loss, we love him dearly and he will be missed every day."
