A SECTION of a footpath appeared to collapse under the weight of a car.

Mid Sussex Police issued a warning to residents to "mind your step" following the incident in East Grinstead yesterday.

A section of the brick walkway between Hermitage Lane and High Street gave way after a  4x4 drove on to it.

The force shared images of the wheel of the car after it had plunged through the pavement, and the hole that was left behind.

In a post on social media shortly after 2.30pm yesterday, a Mid Sussex Police spokesman said: "Please mind your step when walking around the located area on the public footpath between Hermitage Lane and High Street in East Grinstead."

The force has been contacted for further information.
