PUPILS and staff are self-isolating after a confirmed case of coronavirus at an infant school.

A member of the community at Downs Infant School in Ditchling Road, Brighton, has tested positive for the illness.

Headteacher Dr Hidi Mitchell says the school's priority is the health of its staff and pupils.

It is working with authorities including Public Health England to ensure the right steps are taken following the positive test to stop the virus from spreading within its community.

Dr Mitchell said: "A number of pupils and staff members are currently self-isolating following a positive test in our school community.

“Our priority is the wellbeing of staff and pupils.

“We will continue to follow all the latest Public Health England and local public health advice during the pandemic for the good of all in our school community."
