A FORMER Brighton and Hove police chief has been reported over an alleged affair with a colleague.

Surrey Police confirmed a complaint had been received relating to Deputy Chief Constable Nev Kemp.

This follows reports that the former commander of Brighton and Hove Police was caught having an affair with one of his officers.

The married 48-year-old's phone call with Sergeant Rachael Johnson was heard by her husband, fellow police sergeant Ross Johnson, a source told The Sun.

Mr Johnson then reported Mr Kemp to senior officers at Surry Police.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Surrey Police is aware of a complaint relating to Deputy Chief Constable Nev Kemp.

"The matter is in its very early stages, but has been allocated to another force Professional Standards Department to assess.

"While we await the outcome of this assessment it would not be appropriate to comment further."

Mr Kemp joined Surrey Police in 2017, having previously served in Sussex.

He became the commander of Brighton and Hove Police in March 2013, saying he was "absolutely delighted" to have been promoted to the position.

Posting on Twitter to confirm his new role, he said: "(Brighton is a) great city with some fantastic people.

"(I) was born and grew up in the Brighton area, have worked there several times previously and love it, so this is the highlight of my service."
