Pub bosses have responded to claims a historic pub will be demolished.

Greene King bosses say the Dick Turpin Pub off the A127 in Wickford is not currently being demolished.

It comes after fencing and signs were spotted around the site which closed officially early this month.

Residents claim it's being knocked down but bosses deny this.

A Greene King spokesman said: "We’ve put a fence up around the pub for the duration of its closure, but we still own the pub and there’s no works or demolition being carried out.

“It’s always a difficult decision to close a pub and we’re working with our team locally to try and find them a role in another of our sites. We would like to thank all our customers of Dick Turpin who have visited us over the years.”

On November 2 the pub chain confirmed the pub would not re-open.
