THE majority of the UK will face Tier 2 restrictions when the national lockdown ends next Wednesday.
This will have a series of impacts on these areas, with the government's updated, "tougher" three tier system aiming to drive down coronavirus infection rates across Britain ahead of the Christmas period.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Brighton and Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex will all be in Tier 2.
But what will this mean for people looking to travel around the UK, and can people move from one tier to another?
- Anyone living in a Tier 1 or "medium" alert area, the lowest possible alert level, must follow the Tier 2 or 3 rules when visiting areas under these restrictions.
- People in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas are being urged to "'avoid travel to, or overnight stays in, Tier 3 areas other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities".
- It is permitted for people living in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas to travel through Tier 3 areas as part of a longer journey.
- The government Tier 2 advice, which will apply to all people in Sussex, states that people can "continue to travel to venues or amenities which are open" within their area but they should " should aim to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible". This also applies to people in Tier 3 areas.
- People from Tier 2 areas must continue to follow Tier 2 rules when they travel to a Tier 1 area (currently Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and the Isle of Wight).
- The government Tier 3 advice states that people should "avoid travelling to other parts of the UK, including for overnight stays other than where necessary".
- People in Tier 3 areas can travel through other areas as part of a longer journey.
