A MAN spouted vile abuse at police in front of children.

Joseph Cummins was in Brighton when he caused harassment to an officer.

The 42-year-old was hostile towards the presumed sexuality of the PC.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court he admitted causing harassment, alarm or distress.

The court noted the offence was “so serious because it was in a public place in the presence of children”.

Cummins, of no fixed address, had spouted the homophobic abuse on November 19.

“The court finds the offence was motivated wholly or in part by hostility towards persons who are off a particular sexual orientation,” it was reported.

He was given a four-week suspended jail sentence and told to pay a £128 surcharge.
