HAS the world gone mad?
We have elderly (in their mid 80s) neighbours who have stayed at home during this pandemic and have not been out (only for medical examination) or had visitors in their home since March.
We live in Woodingdean and their doctors are based in Saltdean. The elderly gent has unfortunately been diagnosed with suspected motor neurone disease and he is now housebound.
They have been trying to get the flu vaccine for over one month. They requested a nurse come to their house to carry it out - typical elderly people they didn't want to cause a fuss, calling once a week to remind the surgery.
Imagine their frustration when on Friday last the doctors agreed to send a nurse to administer the flu jab soon, but then told them the husband can be vaccinated at home as he is housebound but she will have to travel to the surgery for hers. She pleaded with them, saying surely as you are doing my husband, does it matter if you do mine at the same time? The problem was passed to the practice manager, who confirmed they cannot do her!!
So they have played their part all there lives and done what they were told to do during the pandemic, but now if she wants the flu jab she has to leave her husband alone, get a taxi, sit in a doctors' surgery, risking catching
Covid and then taking it home to her husband.
Still I suppose it doesn't matter, they are obviously past their usefulness.
