A SUSPECTED arsonist has been arrested after a series of bin fires across Brighton.
Police received various reports of bins on fire between 9pm on Sunday and 4am on Monday.
These included incidents in Upper North Street, Oriental Place, St James’s Street, Dorset Gardens, St James’s Avenue, Steine Street and Ship Street.
More fires were reported at about 11.30pm on Monday in the St James’s Avenue area.
Firefighters were called out to separate incidents to extinguish the fires. No damage was caused except to the bins themselves and no injuries were reported.
Police have arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of arson and he remains in custody for questioning.
Superintendent Rachel Swinney said: “We will not tolerate those who cause harm in our city through unacceptable behaviour such as starting fires.
“Rest assured we are investigating this matter thoroughly and work tirelessly to keep our local communities safe.”
