TWO more people have died after testing positive for coronavirus.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust recorded one of the fatalities, which brings the total number of deaths at the trust to 192, as of 5pm yesterday.

It is the first Covid-19 death recorded in the city in four days.

Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust also recorded one death, bringing the total number of fatalities at the trust to 138.

Across Sussex, 182 new cases were confirmed during the latest 24-hour reporting period.

East Sussex saw the biggest increase with 89 people testing positive for Covid-19.

It brings the total number of positive cases recorded in the region to 5,537.

In West Sussex 61 new cases were reported.

Since the pandemic began, 9,238 people have been confirmed to have the virus in the region.

In Brighton and Hove, 32 new cases were reported, which brings the total number of recorded cases in the city to 4,111.

Across the UK, 16,170 new cases were recorded, as of 9am today. It means 1,659,256 people have tested positive since pandemic hit.

Nationally 648 deaths were recorded during the period, which brings the total number of fatalities to 59,699.

Only deaths in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
