A MAN has been charged with arson after numerous bins were set on fire across Brighton.

Police received a number of reports of wheelie bins that had been set alight in the city centre between 9pm on Sunday and 4am on Monday.

These included incidents in Upper North Street, Oriental Place, St James’s Street, Dorset Gardens, St James’s Avenue, Steine Street and Ship Street.

More fires were reported at about 11.30pm on Monday in the St James’s Avenue area.

Firefighters were called out to separate incidents to extinguish the fires.

No damage was caused except to the bins themselves and no injuries were reported, Sussex Police said.

Mark Wilkinson, 48, of Brighton Road, Crawley, has been charged with three counts of arson and was remanded to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
