A TEENAGE girl appeared in court accused of stabbing a man to death.

Police and emergency services were called to Russell Way in Crawley.

Nimroy Hendricks, 24, was treated by paramedics and an air ambulance crew at the scene on October 27.

But he died at the scene from his injuries.

Officers later arrested a 14-year-old girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, on suspicion of murder.

At Hove Crown Court she appeared via video link before Her Honour Judge Christine Laing QC.

She spoke to confirm her name and was represented by Brenda Campbell QC and Ronnie Manek during the hearing.

Sarah Jones QC appeared on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service.

Police were called to Russell Way in the Three Bridges area of Crawley at 9pm on Tuesday, October 27.

The area behind the Equiniti Paymaster building off Haslett Avenue was sealed off.

Mr Hendricks was found with serious injuries shortly after 9pm.

Armed police were called to the scene and a search was launched.

Crime scene investigators in white overalls were seen in Russell Way gathering evidence.

They were seen photographing the area and marking key points in the cordoned off area.

It included putting down markers on the pavement in Russell Way and also inspecting an alleyway at the end of the road which links Haslett Avenue to Coltash Road, over the railway line.

Several police patrol vehicles were at the scene, along with a team of armed response officers and uniformed police to guard the scene.

At the hearing at Hove Crown Court, Judge Laing QC told the girl: “I have made some directions in this case so that things can get underway for preparation.

“There is going to be another hearing. Again, I will need to be able to see you at that hearing.”

The case was adjourned until January 22 next year.
