FRUSTRATED motorists were left sitting in a traffic jam near a retail park - understood to have been caused by roadworks.

Queues appeared to stretch back for more than a mile near the Pavillion Retail Park, home to Aldi, Halfords and Costa Coffee.

Motorists were seen struggling to pull out on to Lewes Road due to the disruption earlier today.

One frustrated motorist took to Twitter to vent his frustration telling The Argus: "Send someone to sort out traffic at the retail park on Lewes Road.

"Can't get out of the car park."

The Argus understands the traffic problems were caused by roadworks near Coombe Road which have led to disruption over the last week or so.

Last year, shoppers leaving Pavilion Retail Park said they were facing waits of “hours” to get out of the car park after one exit lane was closed due to roadworks.

According to furious drivers at the time, traffic lights were only allowing four cars into Lewes Road every two minutes.
