PIERS Morgan has called himself a "Covidiot" after admitting to a momentary breach of coronavirus restrictions.
The Good Morning Britain host was pictured climbing into a cab without a face mask on after an evening at a bar in London with his wife Celia Walden.
The image was shared by The Sun today, causing the Newick-born journalist to take to Twitter and admit his wrongdoing.
But, he said, he was quick to realise his mistake and put his mask on.
In a Tweet, Piers said: "I did breach Covid rules for a few seconds by forgetting to put my mask on before I got in the cab.
"Fortunately, I remembered as we pulled away and put it on.
"Masks help save lives, so it's very important we all remember to wear them when we should."
Responding to comments on the post, he later added: "I haven't made an excuse, I just explained what happened.
"I'm guilty as charged. For a few seconds, I was a Covidiot and I deserve the full wrath of Twitter hell to now descend on me."
Government coronavirus guidance aiming to stop the spread of the illness states that "you must wear a face covering when using taxis or private hire vehicles".
"You will be breaking the law if you fail to do so and could be fined," it continues.
"A taxi driver or private hire vehicle operator will be entitled to refuse to accept you if you do not wear a face covering."
This guidance was first published on May 12 and was last updated on December 9, according to the government website.
