OFFICERS will not be policing the border between tiers, the force have confirmed.

Sussex has been split in two with Hastings and Rother entering Tier Four with the rest of the county remaining in Tier Two.

From today, those in Tier 4 areas will be under restrictions similar to the first lockdown on March 23.

They are under a “stay at home” message by law and must not mix households on Christmas day.

Those in Tier 2 areas remain under the same restrictions as before, but can only form a Christmas bubble on Christmas day.

This comes after hundreds of people were pictured at London’s major train stations as they try to cram onto the last services out of the capital before Tier Four rules hit.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “We will continue policing the restrictions the same way we have throughout the pandemic, by using the four Es – engage, explain, encourage and enforce.

“Should there be reckless or deliberate breaches of the regulations we may go straight to enforcement activity.

“We are not policing the border between tiers specifically – our response to Covid matters is far wider than just the border.

“We continue to ask people to take personal responsibility for their actions and to follow the government’s restrictions. The majority of the public in Sussex have done this throughout the year, and we are confident they will continue to do so.”
