POLICE, fire and ambulance crews are at the scene of a crash on the A27.

One lane of the road has been closed following the collision between Fontwell and Tangmere this morning.

PC Tom Van Der Wee of the Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit is one of the officers on the scene.

He provided an update on the incident via social media shortly before 7am.

PC Van Der Wee said: "We’re on the scene at a road traffic collision with the South East Coast Ambulance Service and the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service on the A27 westbound between Fontwell and Tangmere.

"(We) currently have one lane closed while we deal with the incident."

A traffic report from the area says that "traffic is coping well" with the obstruction.

It states: "One lane is closed due to an accident on the A27 Westbound between the A29 Fontwell Avenue (Fontwell Services Roundabout) and The Street (Tangmere Roundabout).

"Traffic is coping well. Lane one (of two) is closed."

UPDATE

At 8.53am, PC Van Der Wee confirmed that all emergency services have been stood down from the incident and the road has been fully reopened.

The driver of the vehicle involved has been taken to hospital with "serious but non-life threatening injuries".
