Maldon has become one of the most infected coronavirus areas in Essex, despite being one of the lowest just a month ago.
Data from Public Health England shows that the infection rate across the district stands at 759.3 per 100,000 people.
It also shows that 493 cases have been recorded in the seven days leading up to December 24, making it one of the worst-hit areas in England.
The district was once one of the least infected areas - just one month ago consistently recording infection rates below 100.
On November 25, Maldon's infection rate was just 60.1 per 100,000 residents.
But the infection has now sky-rocketed- ranking as the 38th most infected area in England.
