"Repairs are being carried out to a burst water main, affecting traffic heading towards Brighton, past the Amex Stadium."
Southern Water warned customers of the works shortly after 6pm yesterday.
A company spokesman said that two of three lanes would be closed on the southbound carriageway, with traffic heading southbound exiting and re-entering the road via the Falmer junction.

Providing an update this morning, the spokesman told The Argus: "We’re pleased to say repairs to a burst main on the A27 beside Falmer station in Brighton were completed overnight.
"We were able to source hot tarmac and will be reinstating the road today."
But he said that "traffic management is still in place" and apologised to drivers for the disruption caused.
