THE NUMBER of people who have died from coronavirus has passed 75,000.
Figures from Public Health England show the spread of the disease remains high as more than 50,000 cases were reported nationwide for the sixth day in a row.
The UK recorded a further 54,990 confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday and an additional 454 deaths within 28 days of a positive test result.
There was one recorded death at the East Sussex NHS trust, following 13 deaths reported by the trust over the festive period.
In total across five NHS trusts serving Sussex, there have been 926 patients who have died since the beginning of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the NHS reported that a further 2,434 patients had been admitted to hospitals across England, taking the weekly total to 14,987.
Pressure on hospitals in the South East continues to grow.
On Saturday there were a record 57,725 confirmed coronavirus cases in one, a new record.
There were 445 reported deaths across the UK on Saturday.
The death toll since the start of the pandemic last year has now passed a grim milestone and stands at 75,024.
