PIERS MORGAN has blasted pro-Trump protesters for storming the Capitol building.

Protesters in Washington DC stormed the Capitol building on Wednesday during a hearing to confirm Joe Biden’s US election victory.

Supporters of President Donald Trump forced their way into the building, leading to senators being evacuated through underground tunnels.

In a series of tweets, the Good Morning Britain Presenter condemned the protesters’ actions and blamed Trump’s refusal to accept the result of the Presidential election for causing the riots.

Piers wrote: “My god… Trump supporters have stormed the US capitol building. Never seen anything like this… scary situation all drive by President @realDonaldTrump’s insane behaviour and rhetoric. Shameful.“

Civil Rights leaders in the US criticised law enforcement agencies for their slow response to the Capitol attack in comparison to the level of force that was used during last year’s Black Lives Matter protests.

Piers wrote: “If these rioters were mainly Black or Muslim, the police would be behaving in a far more aggressive way.

“Incredible to see how calmly they are treating such an appalling assault on US democracy.”

Several images from protest show demonstrators infiltrating the Capitol building and entering the Senate chamber.

Protesters also broke into the office of Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and sat at her desk whilst posing for photos wearing Make America Great Again caps.

In a tweet, written this morning, Piers referred to an image of a protestor carrying a Confederate Flag through the Capitol building.

He wrote: “So many appalling images from last night’s mayhem in USA but nothing worse than this.

President Trump’s shameful legacy will now be that a confederate flag was raised inside the US Capitol building for the first time ever.

“It didn’t happen even during the Civil War. Horrifying.”

Four people died and 52 people have been arrested.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemned the “disgraceful scenes” and called for a “peaceful and orderly transfer of power”.

In a late-night session, Congress certified President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

President Trump has now committed to a peaceful transition.
