TRAVELODGE has revealed the weird and wacky items left behind by its customers in Brighton.

The budget hotel chain has sites in West Street and Preston Road - and it appears both have lost property sections brimming with some bizarre bits and pieces.

Foremost among them has to be a huge helter skelter-style wedding cake.

Unfortunately, guests at the forgetful owner's reception may not have been able to satisfy their sweet-teethed cravings as the three-feet tall bake was left behind at one of the Travelodge Brighton sites.

However, this was not the priciest item to have escaped the attentions of guests as they left the hotels.

Two first-class tickets to Dubai, a Ludwig drum kit, a fully furnished antique dolls house and even a business contract were all discovered in vacated rooms.

A round trip from Manchester to Dubai (flying with Emirates, leaving on January 30 and returning on February 7) will currently set travellers back £404.

However, prices have been reduced during lockdown with people urged "not to leave home including to travel abroad, unless you have a legally permitted reason" under lockdown restrictions.

Other less valuable - but equally intriguing - items left behind were a statue made from Brighton beach pebbles, a 6ft wide rainbow and a flower arch.

Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed said: “With millions of customers annually staying at our 563 UK hotels we do get a range of interesting items left behind.

"This year’s audit for our two Brighton Travelodge hotels includes a 3ft wedding cake, first class tickets to Dubai, a drum kit and antique dolls house.

"Interestingly, as we kept some of our hotels open during both lockdowns to support local communities and provide accommodation for key workers, local authorities and for businesses that could travel for work we have seen a rise in items being left behind by medical professionals.

"This includes a stethoscope, scrubs, crocs and a nurse’s personal diary documenting their experience of working through the pandemic plus lots of personalised face masks.

"When it comes to why so many of our customers forget their treasured items, it’s basically due to us all being time poor, juggling multiple tasks and being in a hurry to get from A to B. In the rush, valuable possessions are easily forgotten."
