THERE was a shocking scene in East Grinstead this morning as the cold light of day revealed the aftermath of a late-night crash.
The front of London Road Food and Wine grocery store was destroyed with the structure bent out of place and large glass windows smashed.
A drink-driving arrest has been made in connection with the crash, which happened at about 9.30pm yesterday.
Posting an update on the incident on social media this morning, Mid Sussex Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Darren Taylor said: "Families, shoppers, staff and customers in East Grinstead had quite a fright last night, at about 9.30pm, as a vehicle ended up crashing into the shop.
"The female driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. She has been charged and will be appearing at court."
