THE River Adur might be a little chilly for most human swimmers at this time of year but it seems to suit this little fellow just fine.

Argus Camera Club member Sue Barnett spotted him near Shoreham on Saturday and managed to get some great close-up pictures of him in action and resting on the river bank.

There have been increased sightings of seals in the area lately – and also in other Sussex rivers as well as in the sea.

The Sea Watch Foundation has asked the public to help gather further information for a study of Sussex seals in lockdown.

Brighton Dolphin Project also encourages people to report sightings of marine animals to help with its conservation work.

Only a couple of days earlier a seal was spotted swimming off Brighton beach.

Lily Pichon was walking along the seafront between the Palace Pier and Brighton Marina with her family at about noon when she spotted a shape in the water.

The 22-year-old initially thought it was a dog.

She said: "It was quite close to the shore. It looked like it could be a dog which had gone for a swim, but then it went under the water for ages and that's when we realised it was seal."
